"It's Ireland, Not Outer Mongolia!"

That's a quote from Mom when Scarlett has been thrown out of yet another boarding school in London. In this nearly YA novel by Cathy Cassidy, Scarlett is having a difficult time adjusting to the break up of her parent's marriage. Honestly, a 12-year old with black nails, dyed hair and pierced tongue(!?) should raise eyebrows even in London. Mom is at her wit's end, and decides to send Cathy to live with her Dad, stepmum and younger stepsister in rural Ireland.

You can probably predict that school does not work out too well here either; Scarlett begins to skip school and meets a mysterious and handsome boy on a black stallion out in the countryside. Kian helps Scarlett come to grips with her anger issues. Is Kian too good to be true?

Irish lore and legend play a part in this charming story. If you decide to visit Cathy Cassidy's website, be prepared: There's so much pink, flowers and confectionary bling that your sugar levels may spike just by looking. However, it looks like a lot of fun in a girly sort of way. Check it out and check out one of her other 30 or so books.
