Harper Lee is not the only iconic American author who had a new book published this July. Back in 2013, the pages of a nearly completed manuscript by Dr. Seuss were discovered by his widow and secretary. What Pet Should I Get will be released this Tuesday, July 28, and readers will be happily familiar with the One Fish, Two Fish characters; rhyming conventions; and fantastic creatures.
Wonder why this book was written before One Fish, Blue Fish but never published? Read this in-depth New York Times article for one theory. Then, enjoy this sure-to-be treasured book as a read-aloud with a loved one!

A Pair of Pants Books
Read-Alouds:
Two great books together:Bare Bear by Miriam Moss and What Was I Scared Of? by Dr. Seuss
First graders loved the "pairing" of these two rhyming books...both about animated pants!
Bare Bear is an adorable rhyming story of a bear trying to find his clothes after they are taken by a harsh wind. Fairy tale characters help him collect his clothing. Seeing the pants flying around in the wind and landing on the ogre's head made me think of one of my favorite read-alouds by Dr. Seuss. I have great memories of being very scared of the empty pair of pants at a young age. And when the pants start to cry!! I still get emotional! Try these books together on your younger ones and see how they react.
