Remembering A Tragic Circus Fire ✩✩✩✩

One day I was browsing our school library shelves, and pulled out this slim volume titled Worlds Afire by Paul B. Janeczko. The intriguing cover, which I didn't realize at first is a graphic depiction of a circus tent, invited me to open the book.

The historical fiction story is about a horrific circus fire that happened on a sunny summer afternoon in Hartford, Connecticut in the 1940s. People expecting a pleasant outing under the big top were lucky if they made it out alive. Carefully selected words written in prose thoughtfully tell the story of what happened on that tragic day. If your reader likes reading books written in prose, have them also check out Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai, and The Crossover by Kwame Alexander.
