Compelling Historical Fiction

Goodbye Vietnam
by Gloria Whalen

This historical fiction story takes you back to the 1970s and the dangerous times of the Vietnamese "boat people." Families were forced to flee their homes overnight and if they were lucky, they would get on an overcrowded boat headed for Hong Kong. Mai's family makes it on a boat, but will they survive the dangerous and difficult journey? This is a great book for middle grade readers who have read Inside Out and Back Again. Also, try some of Gloria Whalen's other historical fiction novels including Homeless Bird.
